Reading Thru: Genesis 19-21
Today’s Reading: Genesis 19-21
Rom 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death.” In these 3 chapters of Genesis we read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed as the angels of the Lord reigned down brimstone and fire because of the sins of the citizens of these 2 cities. A gratitude rises up in my heart when I consider this truth: what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah rightfully deserves to come my way, as well. But for the goodness of God to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to the Cross, to bring upon Him the judgment and punishment for my sin(s), I would be under the same wrath that fell upon the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah. Today, let us be so very thankful that God has redirected His wrath and poured it out on Jesus rather than us. This is true for all who are willing to receive the fullness of the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross by faith.
One of my favorite passages is 1 John 4:10, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” That word “propitiation” literally means, “wrath-satisfying sacrifice that brings peace between God and man.” Jesus became the “wrath-satisfying sacrifice” that brings peace between God and me, God and you. Thank You Lord that You are no longer angry with us who believe because You have emptied Your wrath, You have satisfied Your wrath about our sins by pouring it out on Jesus Christ through the Cross.
